About the fund

The Mark McQueen Foundation has been set up by the McQueen family from Liverpool in loving memory of their son Mark.

Fund Criteria

The fund can consider projects that meet the funding criteria below:

Mental Health

The Foundation aims to support young men struggling with emotional and mental health issues with the ultimate aim of helping to reduce the rate of male suicide in the area.

Specific eligibility criteria

  • Priority will be given to projects working with young men, and projects which provide rapid, immediate and early responses and intervention for men presenting with suicidal ideation.
  • Existing work may be funded where there is proven need for it although we cannot meet current costs where work is funded by other sources. Rent and other office type costs may be considered where they are part of a distinct project that funding is being requested for.

Examples of the sorts of projects that may be funded:

Support groups and help-line/counselling services for young men, children, or young people with mental health issues

Support for family and friends who have lost someone to suicide

Campaigns for a positive mind-set change around mental health and suicide issues

Research and information gathering projects and collaborations to support the improvement of mental health practice and prevention of suicide

National or regional charities working in a local Lancashire setting on mental health and young men’s issues

Extra curricular student activities to support students, especially those with mental health issues

Projects and charities using the theme of music to work with young men or local musicians

Projects tackling the issue of bullying with young people

Local projects supporting unemployed young men into training and employment

Amount available

There are 3 levels of funding available to apply for which are as follows;

  • Up to £3000 for projects where a grant from the Foundation will cover the total project cost (or the majority of costs)
  • Match funding of up to 50% of the total cost of the project
  • The ‘underwriting’ of a community or charity event or project which may produce its own funding, with the Foundation agreeing to meet any shortfall in funds.

What cannot be funded?

  • Individuals
  • Organisations with less than 3 unrelated Trustees/Directors/Management Committee members or comprising of just one family
  • Projects and activities classed as a statutory responsibility
  • Private Businesses or Companies limited by shares
  • Politically connected or exclusively religious activities
  • National organisations that cannot demonstrate local governance and control of local finances
  • Animal welfare, unless the project benefits people (e.g. disabled riding schemes)
  • Statutory organisations or work that is their responsibility
  • Commercial ventures
  • Purchase/maintenance of vehicles
  • Activities that will have already taken place before we offer you a grant
  • Projects for personal profit
  • Debts and other liabilities
  • Reclaimable VAT
  • Travel outside UK

How to apply?

An online application form can be completed via the “Apply Now” button below. You can attach supporting documents to your online application, or email them to us at applications@cflm.org.uk.

Documents which need to be included with your application:

  1. A copy of your governing document.
  2. A copy of your latest annual accounts or income/expenditure document.
  3. A copy of a recent bank statement for your group. If you do not have a bank account in place, you must be able to nominate another organisation to hold the funds (CVS, another local charity, church etc.).
  4. A list of your Trustees/Directors/Management Committee members. A minimum of three un-related must be in place.
  5. A copy of your current Safeguarding Policy. All applicants must ensure that they hold relevant policies and procedures in place to undertake activities, such as Criminal Records Bureau checks and/or a health and safety policy, depending on proposed activity. If unsure, we recommend taking advice from your local CVS.

If you have applied to us within the last 12 months and provided this information, we do not need you to send it again, although we may require a more recent bank statement.

What’s next?  

Completed applications are considered by Community Foundation staff to check eligibility. You may be contacted for more information after applying and a decision-making panel will make recommendations based on the fund’s criteria and the budget available.
