Modern-Day Philanthropy: Leveraging Resources to Tackle Local Disadvantage

On Monday 11 May, we brought together donors, long-standing supporters and new connections at the Royal Automobile Club. The invitation-only lunch welcomed around 40 guests at the historic Pall Mall venue for a practical discussion on place-based giving.

Guests were welcomed by Chair David Wareing, before Chief Executive Rae Brooke outlined how locally rooted philanthropy can respond to emerging need and unlock sustained support for grassroots organisations.

A Q&A with donors Neil Jones (Pilkington Charities Fund) and Dan Stockton-Hughes (Football for Change) brought these ideas to life, offering practical insight into what it means to invest locally with a Community Foundation, and the confidence that gives.

Much of the conversation centred on collaboration, bringing together people with different assets, networks and perspectives to learn from one another.

“The best philanthropy is rooted in local knowledge and built on trust. Our role is to help donors direct their support where it can have most impact, and to connect resources, partners and ideas so communities benefit longer term.”

Rae Brooke, Chief Executive, CFLM
