Red Rose Awards 2024 – Celebrating the Best of Lancashire

The Community Foundation for Lancashire was delighted to be the charity partner, and sponsor of the Environmental Social and Governance Award, at this year’s Red Rose Awards

The Senator Group, a family-owned furniture design business, who have their global headquarters in Accrington, was announced as the Winner of the Environmental, Social and Governance Award.

Judges were impressed to learn that The Senator Group now has manufacturing sites and showrooms in six continents, delivers to 165 countries and employs over 1400 people.

As well as having an impressive drive for growth, the company is also equally as driven by a deep-rooted sense of responsibility for the environment, people, and the community which is the foundation of the ‘Environmental, Social and Governance’ award. Led by their Steering Group, they have over 40 long-term objectives, including a Pledge to Net Zero in their UK operations by 2040.

Last year they planted 15,000 trees on land owned by the Mustoe family, installed three beehives at their site in Accrington, and trained a dozen of their own people to be beekeepers. Through their Charity Committee, they raised or donated over £155,000 for charitable organisations.

Tim Mitchell, Senior Development Manager, Community Foundation for Lancashire, said, “I’d like to congratulate Paul and his team, they were deserved winners. This was a huge night for the Senator Group as they had a double win, receiving both the Export Award, and Environmental, Social and Governance Award.

“Also, a huge well done to all the finalists in ESG category, including Dennis Eagle, Fox Brothers Group, nybble.co.uk, RecycleIT and the Wellbeing Farm. Held at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool, this was a fantastic event with over a thousand attendees, celebrating the best of Lancashire business.”

As charity partner, the Community Foundation for Lancashire raised funds on the night for the Lancashire Red Rose Responding Fund, which responds to issues affecting the region which prevent people from living healthy, fulfilling lives.

The Fund has invested over £360,000 in total, received from LBV, Swansway Group, Nybble, Marsden Building Society, NORI HR, Fred Mill Trust, East Lancashire Chamber of Commerce, Lancashire County Council and the W O Street Foundation. To date, this funding has helped 78 community groups positively impact the mental health and well-being of 8,835 individuals across Lancashire.
